Prince has native MathML support for some time, so CSS solution might not be that useful today, but in any case in Prince 7.1 it is possible to format certain subset of MathML using exclusively CSS stylesheet.

Here is demo page and PDF output from Prince 7.1. And here is test suite formatted with CSS and corresponding PDF output.
