Sometimes when typesetting a paragraph there's a small amount of overflow on the last line, where a single small word is on final line. When manually typesetting, our designer would often adjust kerning manually to avoid this overflow.

Can PrinceXML do anything similar? e.g. if the last line of a paragraph is less than X in length, then try to adjust kerning of the paragraph to fit it onto the previous line?

Prince will attempt this if hyphenation and justification are enabled. However, only word-spacing will be adjusted, not letter-spacing. We hope to extend this in future.

I have a manual, interactive process for this but would be glad to have Prince do it for me.
