A graphic artist that I worked with really wanted to hang the initial quote mark into the margin just a bit to make the left margin visually more appealing. She showed me examples of this done in German Bibles. At the time Ventura Publisher had no way of doing this. It seems like it might be possible now. Hopefully as a setting in CSS.

You could specify a small negative text-indent on that paragraph, to pull the quote mark out into the margin.
