Forum How do I...?

Removing fonts to reduce the size of the PDF

atopher
Hi All,

How does prince deal with embedding fonts into the PDF. I have a page that contains Arial & Tahoma fonts (+ bold) only. Does prince embed the fonts, and is it possible to prevent this and get the pdf reader to load the fonts from the local machine?

Does it also embed other system fonts even if they are not required by the document?

I'm generating a 1 page document and adding tahoma/tahoma bold into the equation adds 0.5mb to the document....not a great amount I know but with wan speed issues every little helps!

Thanks,

Chris

Prince only embeds fonts that are used by the document. By default, Prince will only embed the subset of glyphs in the font that are actually used, to reduce file sizes. You can disable font embedding entirely using the --no-embed-fonts option. However, note that this does not apply when characters outside the basic Latin range are used in the document.

Thanks....Removed the embedded fonts and the file size shrunk from 500-1000k to 20k.
