SVG Reuse

danielc192
We're in the process of upgrading our OS from Ubuntu 14.04 to 18.04, and by extension Prince. We currently run Prince 9.0-5 with a custom "SVG reuse" build, and are hoping to use the same version on Ubuntu 18, although we're also interested in upgrading to the latest version.

Back in 2016, when we upgraded last time, you were able to build us a new custom version of Prince with this SVG reuse functionality (https://www.princexml.com/forum/topic/3366/svg-reuse). Has this feature been merged into the mainline yet? If not, would you be able to build us an "SVG reuse" version of Prince 11?

In addition, in the link above, you pointed us at an Ubuntu 14.04 compatible version of Prince 9.0-5 with "SVG reuse". Would you be able to build the same version, but with Ubuntu 18 compatibility?

Thanks in advance!

We will investigate this and get back to you shortly.

Any progress on this?

Sorry for the delay, it's on its way! :D

Apologies, development will require at least one more week to get everything right.

Sorry for the delay, we have an updated Prince 9.0 package with SVG reuse available here:
prince-9.0r5-svgreuse-ubuntu1804-amd64.tar.gz
We are still working on integrating it into newer releases of Prince.

Thanks so much for putting this together for us. Any chance you could build a DEB package of this version?

Any progress on getting this feature into the main branch? We're seriously considering transitioning our whole publishing workflow to Prince, and while non-reuse of SVG backgrounds isn't a big issue for the print side, it's a problem for producing e-reader-friendly PDFs; SVG page backgrounds are strongly preferred to bitmaps for that purpose, but having to embed a separate copy of the SVG for each individual page adds up.

We're working on integrating it right now! :D

Support for SVG reuse is now available in latest builds! :D
